On Wednesday evening, FOX News became the first station to interview George Zimmerman, who shot 17-year-old Trayvon Martin to death in March.
“My wife and I don’t have any children,” Zimmerman told Sean Hannity, the interviewer. “I have nephews that I love more than life. I love them more than myself. And I know when they were born, it was a different unique bond and love that I have with them. And I love my children even though that they aren’t born yet.
“I am sorry that they buried their child. I can’t imagine what it must feel like. I pray for them daily,” he said.
Yet, when Sean Hannity asked if Zimmerman regretted that night, he replied with an immediate no.
Hannity: Is there anything you regret? Do you regret getting out the car to follow Trayvon that night?
Zimmerman: No, sir.
Hannity: Do you regret that you had a gun that night?
Zimmerman: No, sir.
Hannity: Do you feel you wouldn’t be here for this interview if you didn’t have that gun?
Zimmerman: I feel that it was all God’s plan. And for me to second guess it or judge it… (shakes head)
Hannity: Is there anything you might do differently in retrospect, now that time has passed?
Zimmerman: No, sir.
“I’m not a racist and I’m not a murderer,” Zimmerman went on to say.
In response, Tracy Martin said in a phone interview with the Associated Press: “We must worship a different God. There is no way that my God wanted George Zimmerman to murder my teenage son.”
